Intermediate Care

Chateau’s Intermediate Care service provides high-quality nursing and personal care at affordable rates. In addition to receiving 24-hour care, residents take part in social and recreational programs that add meaning to their lives.

At Chateau, we place high importance on customized plans for Intermediate Care. Our Director of Care works closely with residents, their families and their medical advisors to develop plans that meet each individual’s specific needs. Then we monitor, evaluate and suggest opportunities for improvement.

These personal care plans may include assistance with:

Level 1 Intermediate Care: Medications

Level 2 Intermediate Care: Dressing, grooming and bathing, incontinence and catheter care

Level 3 Intermediate Care: More complicated health issues, such as insulin monitoring, mobility challenges and memory loss

Note: Palliative care and respite care, at the discretion of the Director of Care

Food services include:

  • Three nutritional home-cooked meals every day, with special diets as prescribed by the doctor or dietician
  • In-room beverages and two snacks delivered daily
  • Care Aides assist residents to the dining room for meals. In-room meals are available for sick or bed ridden residents.

Cleaning services include:

  • Daily linen and personal laundry needs
  • Room cleaning weekly or more often as required

Chateau also provides pharmaceutical services, including the administration, distribution and monitoring of all resident medications. Nurses have 24-hour access to the on-call pharmacist. Our pharmacist provides regular educational seminars on health issues relevant to our seniors and to answer any questions.

When there are urgent medical concerns, residents’ families have 24-hour access to our duty managers and nursing staff. They can be reached by cell phone day or night for updates on the well-being of their loved one.

High-quality care begins with high-quality staff

Chateau provides 24-hour nursing and personal care services under the leadership of our full-time Director of Care. Our shift supervisors are all licensed practical nurses and lead a team of fully trained and certified care aides, who are on the floor and available to residents at all times.

All professional nursing staff and care aides are trained to the highest standards possible. They must have a current criminal record check and be certified in CPR, First Aid, TLR (Transfer, Lifting and Repositioning, including our Hoyer Lift), WHIMIS and medication distribution.

The delivery of individualized care plans is managed and closely monitored by our nursing staff. The Director of Care meets with residents and their families at least twice a year to discuss a progress report and any updates to the care plan.

Only the Change Nurse and the LPN shift supervisors complete specialized procedures, monitor personal care plans and deliver pharmaceutical services. They oversee the management and dispensing of all medications, including communication with the resident’s doctor and family.

Couples are welcomed

Our couple care rooms allow spouses to continue living together, even if one or both requires Intermediate Care services.

Admissions and assessment process

Our Director of Care meets with the individual and/or their family to review the application for Intermediate Care. Based on the individual’s medical needs, and using an assessment tool, the Director of Care determines the type and level of personal care services required. The Director of Care then determines whether Chateau has the capacity and resources to meet the individual’s needs.

Chateau qualifies for the Personal Care Home Subsidy.

Rates vary according to the level of care required, and start at $2,000 per month, based on single occupancy.

Families have peace of mind knowing their loved ones are receiving top notch, reliable and safe care by qualified and experienced nursing and care professionals
